MCA

Master of Computer Application, commonly known as MCA is a three years full time postgraduate program.
This course is considered as an equivalent qualification to B.E. Computer Science.
Normally, the course content for MCA is as follows:
First Year - Basic Concepts in Computer Science
Second Year - Higher level concepts in Computer Applications
Third Year - Specialization and Industrial Project

MAH-MCA-CET
MAH-MC-CET Conducted by Government Of Maharashtra applicable for all MCA postgraduate courses conducted in Maharashtra Universities.
Following are the types of Institutes in Maharashtra State covered by this CET.
a) All Government Institutes
b) All Government Aided Institutes.
c) All University Departments.
d) All University Managed Institutes.
e) All Unaided Institutes.
Eligibility Criteria
Passed with minimum of 50 % marks in aggregate (45% in case of backward class candidates from Maharashtra State only) in any Bachelors degree of minimum three years duration in any discipline recognized by the Association of Indian Universities and having studied Mathematics or Statistics as one of the subjects at 10+2 level or higher level examination.

OR

Appeared for the final year examination of any Bachelors degree of minimum three years duration in any discipline recognized by the Association of Indian Universities and having studied Mathematics or Statistics as one of the subjects at 10+2 level or higher level examination.

Rules & Regulations for MAH-MCA- CET
  • The CET would be comprised of two papers of 100 marks each and each of one hour duration.
  • The CET would have multiple choice objective type questions (MCQs)
  • Each answer carries 4 marks for correct answer and minus 1 mark for wrong answer.
  • There will neither be verification of marks nor revaluation of answer sheets of the CET.
  • The marks of the CET would be considered for admission during the current academic year only and won’t be allowed to carry forward for the next year.
The MH-MCA-CET-2004 examination comprises of two papers (objective type) of one hour duration each with negative marking of 1/4th weightage that of correct answer. viz. General Aptitude (GA) and Computer Concepts (CC).

General Aptitude
The main objective of this paper is to assess the general aptitude of the candidate to pursue a computer applications and software profession.

The questions in this paper will cover: logical reasoning, quantitative reasoning, high school mathematics, vocabulary, English comprehension and verbal ability. A good grasp of the following topics of high school mathematics (up to the 12th standard) will be useful:

Algebra: Fundamental operations in Algebra, Expansion, factorization, Quadratic equations, indices, logarithms, arithmetic, geometric and harmonic progressions, binomial theorem, permutations and combinations.

Co-ordinate Geometry: Rectangular Cartesian co-ordinates, equations of a line, mid point, intersections etc., equations of a circle, distance formulae, pair of straight lines, parabola, ellipse and hyperbola, simple geometric transformations such as translation, rotation, scaling.

Differential Equations: Differential equations of first order and their solutions, linear differential equations with constant coefficients, homogenous linear differential equations.

Trigonometry: Simple identities, trigonometric equations, properties of triangles, solution of triangles, height and distance, inverse function.

Probability and Statistics: Basic concepts of probability theory, Averages, Dependent and independent events, frequency distributions, and measures of dispersions, skewness and kurtosis, random variable and distribution functions, mathematical expectations, Binomial, Poisson, normal distributions, curve fitting, and principle of least squares, correlation and regression.

Arithmetic: Ratios and proportions, problems on time-work, distance-speed, percentage, etc.

Basic Set Theory and Functions: Mensuration: areas, triangles and quadrilaterals, area and circumference of circles, volumes and surface areas of simple solids such as cubes, spheres, cylinders and cones. Set, relations and mappings.

Computer Concepts
  • Computer Basics: Organization of a computer, Central Processing Unit (CPU), Structure of instructions in CPU, input/output devices, computer memory, memory organizations, back-up devices.
  • Data Representation: Representation of characters, integers, and fractions, binary and hexadecimal representations, Binary Arithmetic: Addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, signed arithmetic and two’s complement arithmetic, floating point representation of numbers, normalized floating point representation, Boolean algebra, truth tables, Venn diagrams.
  • Computer Architecture: Block structure of computers, communication between processor and I / O devices, interrupts.
  • Data Representation: Representation of characters, integers, and fractions, binary and hexadecimal representations, Binary Arithmetic: Addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, signed arithmetic and two’s complement arithmetic, floating point representation of numbers, normalized floating point representation, Boolean algebra, truth tables, Venn diagrams.
  • Computer Architecture: Block structure of computers, communication between processor and I / O devices, interrupts.

MCA - Department of Computer Science (Pune)

This entrance examination is specifically conducted for the admission to the full time courses conducted at the Department of Computer Science University of Pune.

Eligibility Criteria

For M.C.A.:
Any Science Graduate (including B.C.A. under Science Faculty) with Mathematics at 10+2 Level.

Syllabus for Entrance Examination:

The entrance examination consists of multiple choice (objective type) questions (100 marks), and covers the areas of Mathematics, general aptitude and English language.

Mathematics Syllabus:
  • Set theory: Set operations, relations, functions.

  • Propositional logic: Formulation, deduction, evaluation, puzzles.

  • Linear Algebra: Solution of a system of linear equations. Determinant and inverse of a matrix, basic properties of matrices.

  • Co-ordinate Geometry and Conic Sections: Equations of lines and planes, vector products; definitions and properties of conic sections.

  • Trigonometry: Identities, computation of heights and lengths.

  • Differential Calculus: Total and partial differentiation, limit of a function.

  • Integral Calculus: Definite and indefinite integrals, solution of differential equations, computation of areas and volumes.

  • Series and sequences: sum, mean, convergence, limit.

  • Real and complex numbers: surds, solution of equations on complex domain.

  • Polynomials: solution of quadratic equations, properties of roots of polynomials with real coefficients, binomial expansion, Taylor series.

  • Permutations and Combinations.

  • Elementary Probability Theory: Computing probability from combinatorial reasoning, conditional probability.
